New Delhi.South Africa beat champions England to register their second consecutive win in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8. With this win Aidan Markram and Co. are close to entering the semi-finals. England needed 14 runs to win from the last over. But fast bowler Enrique Norcia turned the tables in the last over. He took 1 wicket for 6 runs in this over. South Africa defeated England by 7 wickets on the basis of Norkia’s brilliant bowling. With this win, South Africa have 4 points from 2 matches and have moved to the top of their Super 8 group points table.
The England team (ENG vs SA) who came to chase the target could score 156 runs for 6 wickets. It had a bad start. Phil Salt, who is in great form, returned to the pavilion scoring 11 runs. He was dismissed by Rabada. The wicket of Jonny Bairstow fell on the score of 43. Bairstow was caught by Keshav Maharaj off Norkia. Bairstow was dismissed for 16 runs. Captain Jos Buttler also returned to the pavilion cheaply. Maharaj made him his second victim on a personal score of 17 while Moeen Ali returned to the pavilion with 9 runs. Liam Livingstone was dismissed for 13 runs off 17 balls. He was caught out by Stubbs by Rabada. He shared a valuable partnership of 74 runs with Hare Brook. England’s sixth wicket was at 53 when Norwich’s Markram was caught by Brooke.
De Kock scored his second consecutive half-century
Earlier, Quinton de Kock (65) gave a brilliant start but England restricted South Africa to 163 for 6. De Kock hit four fours and as many sixes in a 65-ball innings. During his presence at the crease, South Africa were scoring runs at a run rate of around 10 but after his dismissal, England made a good comeback in the match. Meanwhile, England’s fielding was spectacular.
Miller played an innings of 43 runs
Apart from de Kock, David Miller was the only quick scorer for South Africa. He hit four fours and two sixes in an innings of 43 runs off 28 balls. After hitting a four and a six against Moeen in the second over, de Kock opened his arms by hitting two sixes and a four off Archer’s consecutive deliveries. Riza Hendricks also hit a four in this fourth over of the innings which made South Africa score 21 runs.
De Kock got his life on 58 runs
De Kock hit his fourth six of the innings against Curran in the sixth over, allowing South Africa to post 63 for no loss in the Powerplay. He stole a run in the next over and completed his half-century in 22 balls. Rashid and Moeen’s spin bowling from both ends kept South Africa’s run rate in check. Meanwhile, De Kock also got a lease of life off Rashid when Mark Wood hit the ground while taking a catch.
De Kock and Hendricks added 86 runs for the first wicket
De Kock hit Moeen for four in the next over but the bowler dismissed Hendricks to break the 86-run partnership for the first wicket. Hendricks was able to score 19 runs in 25 balls. Looking to regain momentum, South Africa sent in Henrik Klaasen to bat at number three but Buttler threw him straight at the bowling end and was run out behind the wicket. After this, Buttler gave the ball to Archer and the fast bowler proved his decision right by dismissing de Kock. Buttler ended his innings with a brilliant catch.
Archer took 2 consecutive wickets in the last over
Rashid then dismissed South African captain Eden Markram (one), which took the team to 86 for no loss at 115 for four in the 15th over. Amidst the fall of wickets, Miller held one end and continued to play big shots. Archer took the wickets of Miller and Marco Jansen (not out) off consecutive balls in the last over to restrict South Africa to 163 runs.
