NEET UG Controversy: Over the past few years, various entrance exams conducted in the country have been marred by controversies of cheating and malpractices. The UGC-NET exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) this year has been canceled due to irregularities and indications of malpractices. Meanwhile, the medical entrance exam NEET UG 2024 paper leak is under investigation. The NEET PG 2024 exam to be held today has also been postponed. The new date of the exam will be announced soon.

Have medical entrance exams ever been leaked before?

Before the introduction of NEET entrance exam, various exams were conducted for admission to medical courses in India. Among them, AIPMT was conducted by CBSE, while each state conducted separate medical entrance exams.

Let us tell you that the Medical Entrance Exam, formerly known as All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), was canceled in the year 2015 following reports of paper leaks. At that time AIPMT was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

When the paper leak was investigated, it was found that the question papers and answer keys were circulated through electronic devices in 10 states. After which the medical entrance exam was cancelled. The exam was conducted at 1,065 centers in 50 cities across the country and abroad. A total of 6,32,625 candidates registered for AIPMT in the year 2015. Out of them about 4,22,859 candidates had downloaded the admit card.

According to a Hindustan Times report, around 90 answer keys were leaked to candidates in exchange of Rs 15 to 20 lakh. At that time, Rohtak police arrested seven people, including two doctors and an MBBS student.

The Director General (DG) of NTA was removed from the post.

Amid the ongoing controversy over the cancellation of NEET-UG results and UCG-NET exams, the government has removed NTA Director General (DG) Subodh Kumar Singh. He will now be replaced by retired IAS Pradeep Singh Kharola as DG.
