The controversy over NEET UG showed no signs of abating as the UGC NET held on Tuesday was also cancelled. UGC NET was conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). This decision has left 20,543 candidates registered for the exam in Prayagraj disappointed.

Candidates who had appeared for the exam after months of preparation were counting their correct answers when the news of the cancellation of the exam on Wednesday dashed their dreams. There are many candidates who have done NET earlier and appeared for JRF. Thousands of young people seeking a career in higher education are feeling cheated.

The candidates say that NTA has completely failed to conduct transparent examinations as NTA itself is not an organization but a conglomerate of several private IT companies. This organization operates on the model of extorting money by copying the profiteering and mafia of private companies. The future of the youth is being played with.

The Ministry of Education on Wednesday announced that the UGC NET will be conducted afresh. Cases that compromise the integrity of the examination will be handed over to the CBI. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the transparency of the examination has been compromised hence NTA has decided to cancel the examination which was scheduled to be held on 18th June 2024. About 81 per cent of the over 11.21 lakh registered candidates appeared for the UGC-NET exam held at 1205 centers in 317 cities across the country on Tuesday. NTA conducted UGC NET in 83 subjects.
