The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for election campaign. The court granted him bail till June 1. After being released from jail, he will now be able to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections (2024) Kejriwal sought bail only for campaigning.
The court had already hinted that the road to Kejriwal’s bail is not that difficult. The court had made it clear that Kejriwal was not a habitual criminal, while the ED was saying that if he was granted bail for campaigning, it would set a precedent for cases like Amritpal’s.
Will Kejriwal try to garner sympathy votes?
After getting interim bail from the Supreme Court, Arvind Kejriwal will try to capitalize on the sympathy in the election campaign. He will not only try to garner sympathy votes, but can also make the fact that the court has granted him bail despite the ED’s opposition, election now Arvind Kejriwal can easily win the Lok Sabha elections to be held in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab can campaign. Polling in Delhi is scheduled to take place on May 25. Haryana will vote in the fourth phase while Punjab will vote in the last phase on June 1. Aam Aadmi Party is contesting from Kurukshetra seat in Haryana and all the seats in Punjab.
While Kejriwal was in jail, his wife Sunita Kejriwal started election campaign. She is constantly holding rallies and resolution meetings.
On 25th May, all the 7 seats of Delhi will go to polls

Supreme Court’s sharp comment
Despite ED’s protest, the court made it clear that 21 days would not make any difference. While granting bail, the Supreme Court said that Kejriwal has not been arrested for one and a half years, nothing will happen in 21 days. Arvind Kejriwal has been granted interim bail for election campaign. Kejriwal sought time till July, but he got bail from the court only till June 1. He has to surrender on June 2.
