Johannesburg The South African team got the much-awaited success in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The former captain and cricketer’s happiness knows no bounds at this historic success of the team. Graeme Smith and Dale Steyn are overjoyed after South Africa reached the T20 World Cup final, suffering the pain of losing crucial matches in the ICC tournament.
South Africa entered the final with a one-sided win over Afghanistan. After winning the toss, Rashid Khan chose to bat first but the pace trio of Kagiso Rabada, Enrique Norkhia and Marco Jensen broke the back of the batting early on. After losing 6 wickets for 28 runs, the team was all out for just 56 runs in 11.5 overs. South Africa won by 1 wicket in 8.5 overs and qualified for the final of an ICC event for the first time.
South Africa beat Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the semi-finals to book a place in the final where they will face either India or England. Former skipper Smith tagged current captain Aidan McCrum on X and wrote, “We’re in the final. So happy for you and the team. Just one more win.”
The top fast bowler of his time, Steyn wrote, I am very nervous. We are in the final. This looks great. I am overwhelmed with emotion.
