New Delhi. The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 has been announced. BCCI’s senior selection committee announced the 15-member India squad a day before the deadline. Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in the World Cup while Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah held a meeting with the selection committee at Hotel ITC Narmada in Ahmedabad before announcing the team. BCCI announced the squad for the World Cup through social media. The Indian board did not hold any press conference for this. Many players who are eligible to play in the World Cup did not get a place in this team. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee ignored these players.

Rinku Singh, who earned the title of ‘finisher’ in a short period of time in international cricket, did not find a place in the main squad selected for the T20 World Cup. He has been kept among the reserve players. Rinku Singh who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders also plays the role of finisher in IPL. He is being touted as the future star of Team India. Rinku’s performance in the current IPL has not been anything special. However, he did not get much chance in this season of IPL. Rinku has scored 356 runs in 15 T20 Internationals including 2 half-centuries. His strike rate during this period has been 176.23.

Shubman Gill will be the backup opener
Young opener Shubman Gill has not been included in the 15-man main squad selected for the T20 World Cup in West Indies and America. He will travel with the team as a reserve player. Gill scored a total of 890 runs in IPL 2023 with 3 centuries and 4 fifties. After this he was made the captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. However, this season he has not been able to repeat his previous performance in the IPL. In this IPL season, Gill has scored 320 runs in 10 matches. He has been included in the team as a backup opener.

Pant and Samson heavy on KL Rahul
Veteran wicketkeeper KL Rahul was with Team India in the T20 World Cup last year. Rahul has scored well in the last few matches of the current IPL. However, he did not get a place in the reserve players of the World Cup team. Team India has two wicketkeepers in the form of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. Rahul has scored 2265 runs at a strike rate of 139 in 72 T20 Internationals. He has scored more than 4 thousand runs in IPL.

Ravi Bishnoi was ignored
Lucknow Super Giants spinner Ravi Bishnoi is bowling brilliantly in this season of IPL. Yuzvendra Chahal is also in great form. Bishnoi was tried in T20 for over a year. However, the selection panel overlooked him from the World Cup squad. The 23-year-old Bishnoi has taken 36 wickets in 24 T20 International matches, while he has taken 58 wickets in 61 IPL matches.

Ishan Kishan is also not among the reserve players
Ishan Kishan, who opened for Mumbai Indians alongside Rohit Sharma in IPL 2024, was overlooked from the World Cup squad. Ishan’s strike rate has been more than 165 in this IPL. He has scored 212 runs. Left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan returned home after taking a sudden break from South Africa tour. Since then he has been out of Team India. He has neither made a place in the main squad of the World Cup nor has he been included in the reserve players.
