Adani Defense joins hands with Thales, 70-mm laser-guided rocket to be made in India, know all the features

Ahmedabad:

Adani Defense & Aerospace has partnered with Thales Defense & Security Inc to achieve self-reliance in the defense manufacturing sector. Thales is an American aerospace and defense company. Through this partnership, Thales’ 70-mm laser-guided rocket will be manufactured in India.

Thales is a world leader in the manufacture of 70-mm rockets, launch and firing control systems and has sold 8 million rockets worldwide. The 70-mm rocket enables multiple missions thanks to precise laser guidance, is immune to jamming and has the highest accuracy in delivering munitions to the target. This is considered best for helicopter-mounted or helicopter-mounted rocket systems.

Adani Defense has partnered with Thales to set up manufacturing, assembly and testing in India under the Indian category procurement of the Defense Acquisition Process (DAP) 2020. This is a unique partnership for India. According to sources, this will also provide export opportunities based on competition in the country’s supply chain.

Thales’ 70-mm rocket can be used against light armored vehicles, air defense units, radar sites and communications units with the help of precise laser-guidance.

After Thales mounted the 70-mm rocket on an Airbus H145M attack helicopter in Sweden to demonstrate its accuracy Precision attack It was demonstrated. The missile was fired from a distance of 4.5 km and its deviation from the target was less than one meter. It can be used to reduce collateral damage in urban areas or provide close air support to tanks and infantry on the battlefield.

India’s attack fleet includes the HAL Rudra, the attack version of the Dhruv helicopter, the light combat helicopter Prachanda, the Apache AH-64 and the Mi-35 helicopter. Each Colossus helicopter operated by the Indian Air Force and Army Aviation Corps can mount 48 rockets in a pod.

The need for ammunition similar to that of the 70 mm rocket is often felt. This rocket will prove to be the mainstay of India’s combat capabilities for rotary wing assets. He said that this rocket will also be deployed in ALH (WSI) and LCH series helicopters.

Based on 70 mm unguided rocket launcher. These are fitted on both sides of each helicopter. A total of 7, 12 and 19 red-to-fire rockets of tube configuration have been deployed. Sources said that next-generation guided rockets are also part of the collaboration. This will help in strengthening the Indian defense ecosystem.
