No surprise if Ravichandran Ashwin is seen playing for Chennai Super Kings i.e. CSK in IPL 2025 as R Ashwin has rejoined India Cements. Thus he is back in the CSK setup. With this comeback, Ashwin has also got a big responsibility. He will head the Chennai Super Kings High Performance Centre. This high performance center of CSK is being built on the outskirts of the city and is expected to be fully functional before the start of the next IPL season.
According to a report in Indian Express, this transfer means that there is a strong possibility that Ashwin could reunite with CSK in the mega auction later this year. Since this is a big player auction, the possibility of a trade-off between CSK and Rajasthan Royals has been eliminated, as Rajasthan Royals will not be able to retain Ashwin. The reason behind this is that only 3+1 players are likely to be allowed, with one player added via RTM.

If CSK can’t get Ashwin in the auction then their only option is to trade him after the player auction. “It completely depends on the dynamics of the auction, as we cannot control that. We have to wait and see if the opportunity presents itself,” CSK CEO K Viswanathan said. He further added, “Initially, Ashwin will take charge of our High Performance Center and handle its cricket related functions, including programs and all other matters.”
“We have signed him back. He is now part of CSK Ventures and will also play for the India Cements team in the TNCA First-Division,” confirmed the CSK CEO. For some time there was a discussion that Ashwin would go to India Cements. Even before IPL 2024, India Cements organized an event to commemorate Ashwin’s 100th Test and 500 wicket haul, with India Cements owner N Srinivasan praising the Indian cricketer. Players from Chennai, Johannesburg and Texas can participate in this HPC.

At the same time, Ashwin said about this new role, “My primary aim is to take the game forward and contribute to the world of cricket.” The all-rounder will complete the formalities in the coming weeks when he returns from a short break. Ashwin played for CSK from 2008 to 2015 and his performances for the team in 2009 and 2010 earned him a chance to join the Indian team. After this, Ashwin has played for Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
