India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final. After India won the trophy, former Pakistan captain and former all-rounder Shahid Afridi praised Rohit’s leadership. In his gesture, he showed a mirror to Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Pakistan team was eliminated from the league stage of the tournament. He faced a reverse against America.
‘Captain’s role is always important’
According to a PTI report, Afridi said, “Look, the role of the captain is always very important. A captain’s body language affects the team. The captain has to set an example. Just look at Rohit Sharma, Afridi said Rohit boosted the confidence of the team with his aggressive style. He said, “Now look at his (Rohit) game and his style of play, even the lower order batsmen play without fear because their captain likes to play aggressive cricket. So, I always believe that a captain has a very important role.
‘I’m looking forward to seeing that too’
Afridi said that steps should be taken to improve Pakistan cricket after the disappointing performance. “I don’t know what the PCB chairman has in mind now,” he said. I too am waiting to see what changes will happen but I have always supported the team and will continue to do so. Positive decisions need to be made and changes should not be superficial. The real issue is the grassroots level of our cricket. We need to remove weaknesses from the grass root level. If we invest there, good players will emerge.
