America took a strict stand on the conspiracy to kill Pannu, made this demand to India

New Delhi. A senior US official said on Wednesday that his country continues to insist on providing updated information related to India’s investigation into the alleged botched plot to kill Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and clarified that Washington remains engaged in the matter.

US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said that the US has raised this issue directly with the Indian government at the highest level. Campbell made these comments at a press conference on his and US National Security Adviser (NSA) Jack Sullivan’s visit to India last week.

“We have had a constructive dialogue with India on this subject and I would say they have taken our concerns into consideration,” he said. “We have made it clear that we want accountability from the Indian government and we seek continuous updates on the investigation by the Indian inquiry committee,” the deputy foreign minister said.

“And I will just say that we have taken up this issue directly with the Government of India…at the highest level between the two parties,” he said. Campbell was responding to a question about whether the issue of a conspiracy to kill Pannu had been raised during meetings he and Sullivan had with their Indian counterparts.

In November last year, US prosecutors charged Indian national Nikhil Gupta with working with an Indian government official in the failed plot to kill Pannu in New York. Pannu, wanted in India on terrorism charges, holds dual citizenship of the US and Canada.
