New Delhi. The ICC T20 World Cup will start from June 2. A total of 20 teams are participating in this prestigious tournament organized by America and West Indies. These teams are divided into four groups of 5 each. The Indian team has been placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan. Team India’s first match is against Ireland on June 5. Indian players have started practice after reaching New York. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Team India has reached the World Cup with the intention of ending a 17-year title drought. Along with India, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand, hosts West Indies are also among the strong contenders for the title. The team won not only a shiny trophy but also a huge prize money for becoming the world champions. The runner up will also be given crores of rupees.

In the ninth edition of T20 World Cup 2024, all teams will play 4-4 matches evenly in the group stage. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8. The bottom three teams will be eliminated from the tournament. The remaining 8 teams will be divided into two groups which will decide the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played between the top two teams from each Super 8 group. The winning teams will meet in the final on June 29 in Barbados. The ICC is yet to announce the prize money to be awarded to the winning team. If the prize money is given this time like last time, then the winning team as well as the runners-up and the third and fourth placed teams will also become rich.

Last time champion England got 13 crore rupees
The ICC has set the total prize money for the T20 World Cup to be held in 2022 at US$5.6 million. In Indian currency this is approximately Rs. 46.6 crores. Last time England team became world champion. England won the title by defeating Pakistan in the final. After becoming the world champions, England received around Rs 13 crore as prize money while the runner-up Pakistan team was given Rs 6.44 crore. 16 teams participated in the previous edition.

Money rained down on the top 4 teams as well
Apart from the winners and runners-up, the top 4 teams also prospered. In which the team of India and New Zealand were involved. Both the teams were given an equal amount of Rs 3.25 crore. The teams that reached the Super 8 were also given a huge amount of prize money last time. Last time, the Indian team was eliminated from the tournament after losing in the semi-finals.

17 teams are playing warm up matches
Barring Pakistan, England and New Zealand, the remaining 17 teams are playing warm-up matches in the T20 World Cup. The warm-up matches have started from 27th May and will be played till 1st June. The Indian team will face Bangladesh in a practice match on June 1. Warm-up matches of 20-20 overs are being played. They do not have T20 international status. All teams can field their full 15 players in warm-up matches.
