New Delhi: Pro-Khalistan and radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh has won the Lok Sabha elections. As soon as Amritpal Singh became an MP, his fans have also become active. The situation is such that the uproar over Amritpal has spread to America as well. News of Amritpal Singh’s release has now reached US Vice President Kamala Harris. American-Sikh lawyer Jaspreet Singh has sought US intervention to free Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh from jail. For this he has contacted the US Vice President Kamala Harris.
American Sikh lawyer Jaspreet Singh says that he has thoroughly studied the Amritpal Singh case. He believes that the detention of Amritpal Singh is unjust. Actually, Amritpal Singh has won Lok Sabha Election 2024 from Khadur-Sahib seat as an independent candidate. Amritpal Singh is lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail on charges of terrorism. Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh, who is in jail, will write to the Punjab government seeking interim bail from an Assam jail to take oath as a member of the Lok Sabha. Khalistan separatist Amritpal Singh, who contested from Dibrugarh Jail, has won by a margin of nearly two lakh votes against Kulbir Singh of Congress.
An intervention demand from Kamala Harris
According to a report in India Today, Jaspreet Singh is planning to contact more than 100 US Congressmen to put pressure on the Indian government to release Amritpal Singh. Jaspreet Singh said in a YouTube video, ‘I have met her (Kamala Harris) twice in the last two-three months. I talked to him about immigration issues. I have spoken to him (Amritpal Singh) about this. He has given me time to come to his office. I will meet him on 11th June i.e. Tuesday. Amritpal Singh’s victory was huge and his continued imprisonment raises serious human rights questions.
Contact with 20 American leaders
Jaspreet Singh represents various Sikh organizations in America. This matter has caught the attention of many American leaders. This includes Vice President Kamala Harris. Jaspreet Singh is constantly in touch with her. This is the first time that he is raising an issue related to India with such energy and enthusiasm. Jaspreet Singh mentioned that he met several US senators and congressmen, including Senator Jacqueline Sherrill Rosen and Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego, to discuss the matter. Jaspreet has spoken to more than 20 American leaders.
Amritpal was arrested last year
Amritpal Singh contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from Khadur Sahib seat. He has defeated Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira. Amritpal has won by a margin of 1,97,120 votes. He got 4,04,430 votes while 2,07,310 voters voted in favor of Jeera. His parents Tarsem Singh and Balwinder Kaur reached Assam on Saturday to meet him. Amritpal, dressed as Khalistan terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was arrested on April 23 last year from Mogana Road village after a manhunt that lasted more than a month.
