Australia captain’s statement on Gulbuddin controversy, brought tears of laughter

Gros Islet. Afghanistan stopped Australia in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup. After defeating Bangladesh in the last match of the Super 8, the Afghan team has confirmed its place in the final four. During this match there was a dispute regarding Gulbuddin Naib. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has made a statement about Afghanistan’s all-rounder Gulbadin.

Marsh saw the funny side of Gulbadin’s dramatic complaint during the T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh. He called it ‘one of the funniest things’ he had ever seen on a cricket field. Gulbadin, who was fielding in the slips, fell on his back in the 12th over, clutching his thigh. At the same time, coach Jonathan Trott hinted at slowing down the game as rain was coming and Afghanistan were leading the do-or-die Super Eight match.

Marsh told cricket.com.au, “I got tears in my eyes laughing and ultimately it didn’t affect the game. So we can laugh about it now – but it was fun. It was amazing.” ‘

Bangladesh were then chasing 115 to win and were trailing by 83 under the Duckworth-Lewis rule at 81 for seven at the end of the 12th over. However, Gulbadin later bowled two overs and enthusiastically participated in Afghanistan’s victory celebrations without any ‘hardness’. According to ICC rules, a player can be banned for two matches for ‘deliberate or repeated’ time-wasting tactics, but Gulbadin can only be released after a first and final warning by the match referee.

With the win, Afghanistan knocked Australia out of the T20 World Cup and Marsh said the 2021 champions had themselves to blame for their exit. “We looked at it (the match) as a group,” Marsh said. This was clearly a pretty awesome match, wasn’t it? Lots of ups and downs. Obviously you want to continue playing this tournament. But one thing is that it was completely out of our control and we ourselves are responsible for it.
