Ayodhya District Administration Claims: Rs 1253 crore compensation was given to people affected by development works

Amid allegations of non-payment of compensation for the demolition of houses and shops for development works in Ramnagari following the defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad Ayodhya seat in the Lok Sabha elections, the Ayodhya district administration on Tuesday claimed that Rs 1,253 crore has been given as compensation to those affected.

Ayodhya District Magistrate Nitish Kumar in a statement here said that the removal of houses and shops during the construction of Ram Janmabhoomi Path, Bhakti Path, Ram Path, Panch Kosi Parikrama Marg, Chaudah Kosi Parikrama Marg and Ayodhya Airport affected residents of Ayodhya. 1,253.06 crore has been paid as compensation.

This statement by the Ayodhya district administration comes at a time when people are protesting on social media over the loss of houses and buildings of hundreds of people in the name of development of Ayodhya due to BJP’s defeat in Ayodhya. In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party’s candidate for the Faizabad seat, Awadhesh Prasad, is blaming the public’s anger on the vandalism of shops. Awadhesh Prasad defeated BJP candidate Lallu Singh by 54,567 votes.

The district administration has claimed in a statement that the beautification and road widening work in Ayodhya has been done in coordination with the shopkeepers, building owners and land owners located on their fringes and by compensating them by rehabilitating them as per norms.

The District Magistrate said in a statement that a total of 4616 shopkeepers were affected due to beautification and widening of Rampath, Bhaktipath, Ramjanmabhoomi Path and Panchkosi and Chaudhakosi Parikrama Marg, out of which 4215 shopkeepers/traders whose shops were partially affected by the widening. All of them were compensated per shopper in exchange for trade affected during the period.

According to the statement, a total of 401 shopkeepers were completely displaced due to beautification/expansion, out of which 339 shopkeepers have been allotted shops by the authority and will be compensated one rupee per shopkeeper if their business is shifted elsewhere. Compensation up to Rs 10 lakh (depending on the size of the shop vacated) is paid separately into his account.

According to the statement, a total of 79 families who were completely displaced due to beautification or widening of roads/paths have been resettled. A total of 1845 Land Owners/House Owners were affected by this, who as compensation as per rules received Rs. 300.67 crore has been given.

According to the District Magistrate, all the affected families have been rehabilitated as per the rules for the construction of the newly constructed Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya and after coordination with the affected account holders, the land was acquired based on their consent. A total of Rs. 952.39 crore was paid.
