The opening pair of Pakistan captain Babar Azam and opener Mohammad Rizwan have been facing a lot of criticism. The team has failed to give a good start to the pair of experienced batsmen. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has also criticized senior Pakistan batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for their batting approach in T20 World Cup 2024. Babar and Rizwan opened the innings in the first two matches of the tournament. Both the openers failed to win against India while chasing a target of 120 runs. Even against America, these two could not show anything amazing.

Speaking on Star Sports after Pakistan’s win against Canada, Sanjay Manjrekar said he was happy that the team had made changes in the top order. In their third group-stage game, Pakistan dropped Babar Azam at No.3 and allowed Sam Ayub to open.

Sanjay Manjrekar said, “I am happy that they changed the batting order. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan cannot open the innings together. Both the players were not really keen on playing big shots. So they put someone else at the top. The left-hander, The right hand combination is not such a bad thing so there are some good things going on.”

He added, “Batting is still a concern. Mohammad Amir is showing his potential. So I think they can play better than Ireland. But once they go to the Super-8s, it will be another litmus test for them because they don’t look as good as some of the other teams that have gone through this stage.”
