But you will be surprised to know that two important people associated with the film did not want Kajol to act in the film. He was not the producer or director of the film but the composer. Yes, the music composer duo Nadeem-Shravan did not want Kajol to be the lead heroine in this 1993 romantic thriller. In an interview to Radio Nasha, the film’s director revealed how both of them were adamant about removing Kajol from the film.
If Kajol was not removed, Nadeem-Shravan left the film
Director Abbas Mastan said that Nadeem-Shravan left the film when he did not remove Kajol. Abbas-Mastan approached Nadeem-Shravan for the music. This was the hit duo of that time. The director approached the musician duo but had one condition.
Mastan said, Nadeem-Shravan had some personal issues with Kajol and her mother Tunja Ji. He asked us to change the heroine of the film. We refused to do so as we had already signed Kajol. We did not agree to any change in casting. If the picture is made then Kajol will definitely be there. At this he said, then we will not stay.
What was the problem?
According to a report in Indian Express, after the success of Kajol’s debut film Bekhudi in 1992, Nadeem-Shravan wanted Kajol in their team so that the trio could work together. However, when he visited Kajol’s house, he was deeply hurt by his mother Tanuja ji’s behavior and decided that he would never work with Kajol from then on. Anu Malik was signed for the film when Nadeem-Shravan came out of Baazigar.
