West Indies legend Brian Lara believes that the US team is a strong contender to qualify for the Super-8 from Group A. The Indian team has qualified for the Super-8 after defeating the USA on Wednesday. Pakistan team has lost two matches in a row, although the team managed to win the match against Canada. On the other hand, the American team has shocked everyone with its performance. USA has defeated Canada and Pakistan.
USA defeated Pakistan in Super Over in their second match and recorded their second consecutive win. America gave India a tough match in its third match as well. However, India defeated America by seven wickets. Talking about their chances of making it to the Super 8s, Lara said that America is the favorite team against Pakistan as a win in their last match will ensure their qualification.
“They (Pakistan) still have a chance,” Brian Lara told Star Sports. I think the USA just have to take care of winning their last game, they will do that and they will qualify. But we hope they win and USA lose their game. So my bet is on USA. I think they are full of confidence and will want to make it to the Super 8, which will be huge and historic for American cricket.
The American team is second in the points table with two wins from three matches. Team USA will play its final match against Ireland on Friday. On the other hand, Pakistan team has managed to win only one out of three matches. A team has two points in the points table. The Babar Azam-led team will play their last match against Ireland on Sunday. If the US manages to beat Ireland on June 14, it will advance to the Super 8s alongside India in Group A.
