Senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday alleged malpractice at an examination center in the state’s Dhamtari district during the Chhattisgarh Teacher Eligibility Test (CG-TET) 2024 and demanded a probe into the examination. Baghel also demanded that the candidates of the concerned examination center be given an opportunity to re-sit the examination. The CG TET-2024 exam conducted by the Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board was held on June 23 in the state.

Baghel claimed that irregularities have come to light in the conduct of the CG-TET examination at the examination center Maharshi Vedavyas Government College located at Bhakra in Dhamtari district. Baghel said that 400 candidates took the exam in the second shift from 2 pm to 4:45 pm at this centre. He claimed that the nodal officer had provided 420 question booklets to the center for the examination but only 160 OMR sheets were given to fill the answers.

He said that the in-charge of the examination center informed the higher authorities over phone, after which 240 OMR sheets were made available to the center at 3.15 pm, which were distributed among the candidates after a delay of about one-and-a-half hours. . The former chief minister said that despite the delay in issuing OMR sheets, candidates were not given extra time for the examination, as a result of which candidates failed to attempt all the questions.

He claimed that the in-charge of the examination center informed the Divisional Controller about the situation and sought necessary guidance but no instruction was given to grant additional time.

Baghel said it is a matter of investigation as to why the examination center was not provided enough OMR sheets as per the number of examinees. He demanded strict action against the culprits and give the candidates a chance to re-sit the exam. Baghel has written a letter to Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai in this regard and demanded a decision in the interest of the candidates.

The Congress has also shared a letter written by the Principal of Maharshi Vedavyas Government College in New Raipur to the Controller of Professional Examination Board, in which he has given information about the entire incident during the examination.

The principal wrote in the letter that due to the delay in providing the OMR sheets, the candidates sought additional time for the examination, for which guidance was sought from the board over phone. But there was a notification that no additional time would be given.
The candidates of the concerned examination center have written a letter demanding bonus marks or cancellation of the entire CG TET 2024 examination.

The candidates wrote in the letter that the exam time in the second shift was from 2 pm to 4:45 pm, in which we were given the question paper at 2.30 pm while the OMR sheet was given one and a half hours late. At around 5:50 PM, OMR sheets were collected from all the candidates and deposited. Candidates asked for additional time but it was not given. This will affect the future of all the candidates.

The examiners requested the concerned examination center to award bonus marks to the candidates or cancel the examination.
