Chess Tournament: Pragyananda 4th, Carlson wins Superbet tournament

Warsaw: India’s Grandmaster R Pragyanand performed well in the Superbet Rapid and Blitz chess tournament and finished fourth while Magnus Carlsen took the top spot. The tournament is part of the Grand Chess Tour. On the final day, Carlson topped the Blitz category with eight points out of nine. China’s Wei Yi entered the final day with a 2.5-point lead but managed just five points in the last nine matches to finish second.

World number one Carlson won seven matches and drew two matches on the last day. He topped with a total of 26 marks. Wei is second, Poland’s Duda Jan Kristof is third with 19.5 points, while Pragyananda is fourth with 19 points.

India’s Arjun Arrigasi is fifth with 18 points. Nodirbek Abdusattarov finished sixth with 17.5 points while Kirill Shevchenkov finished seventh with 17 points. Anish Giri is eighth with 14 points. Germany’s Vincent Kemmer is ninth, half a point behind him, while world championship challenger De Gukes is 10th with 12.5 points.
