South African batsman David Miller has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council i.e. ICC. David Miller has been given an official reprimand for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Group 2 match against England at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Friday.
Miller was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff, which deals with “disagreeing with an umpire’s decision during an international match”. In addition, one demerit point has been added to Miller’s disciplinary record. This was his first offense in a period of 24 months.
The incident happened in the 19th over of South Africa’s innings. Miller played a full toss from Sam Curran and was expected to call the ball a ‘no ball’ because of his height. When the ball was not declared a ‘no ball’, he disagreed with the umpire’s decision and indicated that the decision could not be reviewed.
Hardik Pandya received this award for the first time in an ICC tournament, a long awaited one.
Miller pleaded guilty and accepted the penalty proposed by match referee Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel. Therefore, no formal hearing is now required in this case. The allegations against Miller were made by on-field umpires Chris Brown and Sharafuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Joel Wilson and fourth umpire Chris Gaffney.
Talking about this match, South Africa defeated England. England lost the match in the last three overs. The team had to score 25 runs in 18 balls, but the team could only score 17 runs and lost the match by 7 runs. The match also looked to be in England’s favour, but the wickets of Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook turned the match around.
