Delhi Liquor Policy Case: CM Arvind Kejriwal gets regular bail

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been granted regular bail by the court. The Chief Minister of Delhi was arrested in the liquor scam case. Rouse Avenue Court has granted bail to Kejriwal on a bond of Rs 1 lakh. Arvind Kejriwal may come out of jail on Friday after completing the bail process. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the ED, told the court that the ED has strong evidence against Kejriwal. So he should not get bail.

At the same time, CM Kejriwal’s lawyer told the court that the entire case against Kejriwal is based on imagination. CM Kejriwal was arrested by ED on March 21. After this he was sent to Tihar Jail on April 1.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Kejriwal for 21 days during the election. After being out on bail for 21 days, Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail at 5 pm on June 2. Earlier on Wednesday, CM Kejriwal’s judicial custody ended, which was extended by the court till July 3.

The new liquor policy was implemented in 2021
The Delhi government implemented a new liquor policy in Delhi on 17 November 2021. Under this, 32 zones were created in Delhi. A maximum of 27 shops were to be opened in each zone. Including this, 849 shops were to be opened. All liquor shops in Delhi have been privatized in the new liquor policy. Earlier, 60 percent of the liquor shops in the capital were government-owned and 40 percent were private. After the new policy, it was 100 percent privatized. While implementing this policy, the government argued that it would generate a profit of 3,500 crores but later the policy turned out to be a disaster for the Delhi government.

This matter came to light in 2022
The liquor policy scam was exposed on 8 July 2022 by a report by then Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar. In this report Naresh Kumar made serious allegations against many big leaders of Aam Aadmi Party including Manish Sisodia. After this, Delhi LG VK Saxena recommended a CBI probe. CBI registered a liquor policy case on 17 August 2022. After this the misappropriation of money also came to light and due to this the ED registered a case to investigate money laundering.
