Dharavi Premier League: 14 teams…over 200 players…T20 craze hits Dharavi, league starts on this day

Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPPL), a joint venture between the Government of Maharashtra and the Adani Group, along with the youth of Dharavi, organized the first-of-three, saluting the spirit of the over one million residents of Asia’s largest informal settlement. Proud to present Premier League (DPL), a one-day cricket tournament in Dharavi. The tournament is divided into six stages across all sectors of Dharavi, with the first stage being played between 14 teams with a total of over 200 players from sector one. Sector 1, called the soul of Dharavi, is the core of Dharavi and is also the largest sector in terms of both geography and population, including areas such as Matunga Labor Camp, Shahu Nagar, Sat Chal, Valmiki Nagar, Kamala Nagar.

The matches will be played on a knockout basis under floodlights in a 10 over format between the teams at the RPF ground in Dharavi. This will be a T20 tournament and ICC rules will be followed. In which the third umpire and equal number of referrals will be available for both the competing teams.

A match will be played between these teams

There are 14 teams in the Dharavi Premier League: Thunder Boltz, Strikers, Valmiki Giants, Team Spirit, Vicky Panthers, Matunga Warriors, Young Boys, Shahunagar Singhams, Hibah Fighters, Meghdoot Blasters, Ashtavinayak Squad, Morya Boys, Samrat and Lions Cricket Club.

Umpire and referee will be from Dharavi

Full matches with replays including decisions referred to the third umpire on a large LED screen and DPL’s YouTube handle @dharavipremierleague will be broadcast live on The entire DPL is being organized by the people of Dharavi, including event organizers, match entertainment, music and food. Apart from the players, the match referee, umpire, groundsman are also residents of Dharavi. There will be several cash prizes for the winning and runner-up teams as well as Man of the Match, Player of the Series. Besides, there will be spot prizes for spectators who come to cheer their favorite mohalla teams.
