Diamond League: World champion Neeraj misses out on gold by 15 cm, finishing second

New Delhi, world and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra finished second in the Diamond League held in Zurich, Switzerland. In the men’s javelin event on Friday morning, Neeraj finished second with a throw of 85.71 metres. Czech Republic’s Jakub Waldech, who won a bronze medal at the World Championships, finished first with a best throw of 85.86m. Neeraj was 15 centimeters behind him. Neeraj won the gold medal in the World Championship in Hungary just four days ago.

With this, Neeraj Chopra’s winning streak in the 2023 season also ended. Before participating in the Zurich Diamond League, the Indian javelin thrower won gold medals in the Diamond League legs in Doha and Lausanne before winning a historic gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Neeraj after a slow start in the Diamond League – where he threw 80.79m in his first attempt and failed to impress in the next two attempts. He threw a personal best of 85.71 meters in his final attempt, which earned him second place.

Neeraj Chopra recently created history by winning the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships 2023 held in Budapest, Hungary. He became the first Indian to win gold at the World Championships. He achieved this feat in the men’s javelin final with a best throw of 88.17m.
