This role was later played by Tabu. Seeing this role, Madhuri Dixit rejected the entire film. The reason behind it was that Salman Khan had to touch her feet in the film. Madhuri Dixit did not like this. Because of this, she rejected the film. Madhuri Dixit has also told about this many times.
In an interview to Rediff.com, Madhuri Dixit said, ‘Hum Aapke Hai Kaun director Sooraj Barjatya wanted to cast me but was worried about which role to play. I couldn’t play Karisma Kapoor and Sonali Bindre because our Hum Aapke Hai Kaun was a hit. Because after this my role in the next film should be good with Sooraj Ji. I didn’t want to take a step back. After a long discussion it was decided to give me the role of Tabu. It has a scene where Salman Khan touches his sister-in-law’s feet and hugs her. For this reason I refused the role of Tabu. Since our romance was highly praised after Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, I didn’t like Salman touching my feet.
