Emergency vs Save the Constitution: BJP’s plan ready for the opposition to show the constitution in the Lok Sabha!

On the first day of the Parliament session of the 18th Lok Sabha, leaders of the Congress and opposition parties arrived in the House with a copy of the Constitution. During the Lok Sabha election campaign, the opposition, which raised slogans of “Save the Constitution”, was seen on the front foot on the first day of the House. But today BJP seems to be cornering Congress on the issue of Emergency. Today is the anniversary of Emergency. On this day, late in the night of 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced the imposition of emergency in the country. BJP is constantly attacking Congress regarding Emergency. In such a situation today BJP has made a complete plan to surround the opposition which is showing the constitution.

Earlier, while addressing the media at the Parliament complex on Monday morning, Prime Minister Modi termed the crisis as a black mark on India’s parliamentary history, when the Constitution was completely rejected and the country turned into a prison. Congress leaders reached the House with a copy of the Constitution on Monday, the first day of the Parliament session. Even in the Lok Sabha elections, all Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi campaigned that the BJP wanted to change the constitution. In such a situation today the issue of constitution and emergency can be heard from the parliament to the streets.

A story of crisis…

On June 25, 1975, in a late night broadcast on All India Radio, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced the imposition of emergency in the country. Hours earlier, the Supreme Court had placed a conditional stay on the Allahabad High Court’s decision invalidating Indira Gandhi’s election as a member of the Lok Sabha. The Supreme Court asked Indira Gandhi to stay away from parliamentary proceedings. However, he had something else in mind. Emergency was in force in the country for a period of 21 months from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977. The then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared emergency in the country under Article 352 of the Indian Constitution on the recommendation of the government led by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. According to Article 352 of the Constitution, the President can declare an emergency if there is a serious threat to the security of the country – whether due to war or external aggression or armed rebellion.

On June 25, PM Modi called democracy a ‘black spot’

Calling the Emergency a ‘black spot’ on democracy, Prime Minister Modi on Monday said that on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the countrymen should take a pledge that no one in India would dare to take such a step again. The Prime Minister said this while addressing the media at the Parliament complex on the occasion of the opening of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. He said, “Tomorrow is 25th June, for those who are dedicated to the dignity of the Constitution of this country, who believe in the democratic traditions of India… 25th June is an unforgettable day. Tomorrow is 25th June. , India will put a black mark on democracy now.” It’s been 50 years.” The Prime Minister said that the new generation of India will never forget how the country’s constitution was completely rejected then, the country was turned into a prison and democracy was completely suppressed.

BJP’s nationwide program on emergency anniversary

The BJP on Monday said it would launch a nationwide program on the anniversary of the 1975 Emergency to “expose” the dictatorship of the Congress and its approach to the Constitution. BJP chief spokesperson Anil Baluni said in a statement that party president J.P. Nadda will address a major program titled ‘Black Days of Democracy’ at the party headquarters on Tuesday. Anil Baluni said, “Emergency is a dark chapter of India’s great democracy which can never be forgotten. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed ‘Emergency’ on the country on June 25, 1975 while strangling democracy in the country.” Apart from this, BJP has also planned to organize various programs at the state level on June 25.
