Suryakumar Yadav scored his second consecutive half-century India have registered their fourth consecutive win in this World Cup India’s 8th T20 win against Afghanistan
New Delhi. In the Super 8 match of T20 World Cup 2024, India registered a great victory against Afghanistan. Team India beat Afghanistan by 47 runs and registered their fourth consecutive win in this World Cup. Team India had earlier registered three wins in the group stage. This is India’s eighth win against Afghanistan in T20 international cricket. Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah played an important role in Team India’s win. In the match played in Barbados, India gave Afghanistan a target of 182 runs. Afghanistan team could score only 134 runs. Team India will face Bangladesh in the second match of the Super 8 on June 22.
Afghanistan (IND vs AFG) did not get off to a good start while chasing the target. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz to give Afghanistan the first blow. Gurbaz got out after scoring 11 runs in 8 balls. Akshar Patel gave India another success by getting Ibrahim Zadran caught by Rohit. Zadran got out after scoring 8 runs in 11 balls. Bumrah sent Zazai to the pavilion for 2, while Gulbadin Naib was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. Naib was dismissed after scoring 17 runs. Azmatullah Omarzai contributed 26 runs while Najibullah Zadran returned to the pavilion with 19 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took 3 each while Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets each.
India scored 181 runs for 8 wickets
Earlier, with the help of Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century, India scored 181 runs for 8 wickets. Suryakumar played an innings of 53 runs in 28 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. He combined with Hardik Pandya (32 runs, 24 balls, three fours, two sixes) for the fifth wicket of 60 runs off 37 balls to take the team to a strong score. Virat Kohli (24) and Rishabh Pant (20) also played useful innings. India managed to score 66 runs in the last six overs.
Rashid and Farooqui took 3 wickets each
From Afghanistan, captain Rashid Khan scored 26 while Fazalhaq Farooqui took three wickets each by giving 33 runs. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat. The team played with a black strip in memory of former India fast bowler David Johnson, who died on Thursday. After a slow start, India lost the wicket of Rohit (08) in the third over, who was caught by Rashid while trying to play a big shot off Fazalhaq Farooqui.
Pant started with a four as soon as he came in.
Rishabh Pant hit Farooqui for a four as soon as he arrived, while Kohli greeted Naveen Ul Haq with a straight six. Pant hit Nabi for three consecutive fours. However, he got lucky during the second four when Naveen dropped his catch. In the power play, India scored 47 runs for one wicket. However, Pant was trapped lbw in the next over after missing a direct delivery from Rashid. He scored 20 runs in 11 balls with the help of four fours. Kohli (24) was also caught by Nabi on the long off boundary in the next over while trying to pick off a shot from Rashid.
India’s score reached 100 in the 13th over
Shivam Dube (10) hit Noor Ahmed for a six while Suryakumar Yadav hit Rashid for a six. However, Rashid lbw Dubey gave India their fourth blow. Suryakumar completed India’s century with two fours off Azmatullah Omarzai in the 13th over. Hardik Pandya also showed his attitude by hitting fours over Naveen and Rashid. He also hit a four and a six off consecutive balls from Noor in the 16th over. In the next over, Suryakumar completed his half-century in just 27 balls with a six and a four off Farooqui’s consecutive deliveries, but the next ball was caught by Nabi in mid-air.
India’s 150 runs were also completed in this over. Pandya hit a six off Naveen in the next over but was then caught by Omarzai on the boundary. Ravindra Jadeja also scored seven runs and was caught by Gulbuddin Naib on Farooqui’s ball. Akshar Patel scored 14 runs with two fours in Naveen’s over before being run out on the last ball of the innings. India defeated Ireland, Pakistan and USA in the league stage. Team India’s fourth match against Canada in the league stage was washed out due to rain.
