The Indian cricket team for Asia Cup 2023 was announced on Monday afternoon. A 17-member team was selected by the selectors along with captain Rohit Sharma. Sanju Samson’s name is not in this team. The wicket-keeper batsman was selected as a touring reserve who would not be part of the main squad. KL Rahul is not fully fit. In such a situation, Sanju Samson will go to Sri Lanka as a backup reserve, where India is scheduled to play its Asia Cup matches. However, even after a day of selection, BCCI and Sanju Samson’s name is trending on social media.
On X, Sanju Samson’s fans have accused the BCCI Mumbai Indians Not part of the squad, not close to Rohit Sharma and not playing for any big IPL team. In such a situation, he is not part of the Asia Cup squad. A cricket fan has described him as better than Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma because of Samson’s statistics in ODI cricket. Suryakumar Yadav Better than Surya is good in T20 format but his ODI stats are very poor while Tilak Verma is yet to make his ODI debut.
Now the question is if KL Rahul Would Sanju Samson also have been kept in the traveling reserves if he was fully fit? The answer is no, because if KL Rahul is fully fit he would be the first choice wicketkeeper and Ishan Kishan is there with the backup wicketkeeper squad. This is why Sanju Samson is not even the 18th player. It also seems unlikely that he will be part of the final fifteen of the World Cup. Apart from this, if he is not selected in the squad for the Asian Games, he will sit at home for a long time.
