Why is China watching?
The Teesta River Project was special for China in many ways. He had been showing his interest in this project for a long time, but now with India’s entry in the project, all his plans have been ruined. It is said that China even proposed to Sheikh Hasina’s government to undertake the entire water management of this river at its own expense. According to experts, if China had got the contract for this project, it would have directly meant that China would have been able to keep an eye on India from the east under the pretext of the Teesta river project. On the other hand, the growing closeness between Bangladesh and China was sure to have an impact on India-Bangladesh relations.
