Sharp bowling from Fazalhaq Farooqui and Naveen Ul Haq saw Afghanistan beat Papua New Guinea by seven wickets to book their place in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup for the first time. Afghanistan team tops Group C. The team has won all three of its matches. The team has to play its last league match against West Indies, who have already qualified for the Super-8. West Indies have also won all their matches. Fazalhaq Farooqui was giving an interview to the ICC after winning the match against Papua New Guinea and Rashid Khan was seen pulling his leg during the interview. Left arm fast bowler Farooqui took three wickets and conceded 16 runs in four overs.
Batting first, PNG were bundled out for 95 in 19.5 overs against sharp bowling from Fazalhaq Farooqui and Naveen (two wickets for four runs). In reply, Afghanistan overcame the initial setback to post a 101 for three victory in 15.1 overs. Gulbuddin Naib took the team to the target by playing an unbeaten innings of 49 runs off 36 balls.
T20 World Cup 2024 After Afghanistan’s win in the 29th match of the tournament, Fazalhaq Farooqui was declared the player of the match. After the match, he was chatting with former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop. However, during his interview, the Afghanistan captain also reached there and was doing some funny moves which made Fazlhaq Farooqui laugh during the interview.
He suffered for a while but couldn’t stop himself and asked his captain to ‘shut up’. The bishop also reacted to the humorous comment and asked if the comment was meant for him. “Just to make it clear that it’s not for me?” asked the bishop. “That was for Rashid,” replied Farooqui, smiling.
