Shefali Verma, who scored a record 205 runs in the only Test against South Africa, has considered this innings as a precious legacy of his life. Twenty-year-old Shefali completed her double century in just 194 balls, surpassing Australia’s Annabel Sutherland. The Australian scored a 248-ball double century against South Africa earlier this year. Shefali also became the second Indian after former Indian captain Mithali Raj to score a double century in Test cricket after a gap of almost 22 years.

“This is a special moment for me and it will be a treasured memory for the rest of my life,” Shefali said at the post-match press conference. This is my second favorite innings after the U-19 World Cup title.” She said, “I was not able to convert a good start into a big innings in the ODI against South Africa but today I took my time from the start. I had faith in my strength and by God’s grace I was able to play this innings. This is the result of my hard work and I am happy to contribute to the team.

Shefali, who scored 96 against England three years ago, admitted that she was getting nervous after crossing 90. He said, “Who can forget being dismissed for 96 runs? I remembered too. I was just thinking about making those four runs. I felt the same after getting close to 200.” Shefali also credited the batsmen’s camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for the performance. “I practiced a lot with both red and white balls in the camp, which helped,” he said. All the batsmen were in the camp and we enjoyed it a lot. Credit for this performance goes to that camp.
