Mumbai. The name of Gautam Gambhir, who made Kolkata Knight Riders champions in the recent season of the Indian Premier League, is the frontrunner in the race to become the coach of the Indian team. Former captain Sourav Ganguly backed the Indian’s appointment as the head coach of the national team and said on Saturday that Gautam Gambhir would prove to be a good coach if he applied for it.
Ganguly said, I am in favor of the Indian coach. Gambhir would prove to be a good coach if he applied for the post.
Under the guidance of former batsman Gambhir, who was a member of India’s World Cup-winning team, Kolkata Knight Riders recently won the IPL title after 10 years. Gambhir is considered to be the frontrunner in the race to become the Indian coach. Current coach Rahul Dravid will step down after the T20 World Cup. The Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jai Shah had also recently hinted that Indian coaches would be given priority.
Shah said, “An intensive process is going on to find a suitable coach for the national team. We are focusing on individuals who have a good understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have grown through it.
Ganguly also said that India is a strong contender for the title in the T20 World Cup being played in America and West Indies. He said, “India has a very good chance of winning the World Cup. India will have to play like a T20 team. There is a lot of talent in this team.
