One thing that has been the subject of much debate in Team India for some time now is how many left-handed batsmen there are in the batting order and how many left-handed batsmen there were when India became champions in the 2011 World Cup. Arguments about who is a right-handed batsman and who is a left-handed batsman, whether we should have three left-handed batsmen in our team are nonsense. We look at the quality, not the number of left-handed batsmen in the team.

Gautam Gambhir continued, ‘If there is a good batsman, we should not look at whether he plays left-handed or right-handed, we should look at how he is playing in each position, how he is playing against the opposition. Bowlers If Tilak Verma is in good form then pick him, if Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are in good form then pick them. Nowhere is it written that you have to have a left handed batsman. I don’t think such a debate should even be started, if we are focusing on left-handed batsmen, where is Yashwi Jaiswal or where are the rest of the left-handed batsmen? But you focus on quality not quantity.
