New Delhi. Suryakumar Yadav termed the brilliant catch that decided the course of the T20 World Cup final against South Africa on Monday as God’s plan. Suryakumar showed a brilliant example of awareness and concentration and almost ensured the team’s victory by taking a wonderful relay catch of David Miller at the long off boundary.
However, Suryakumar did not over-emphasize his role in this title win while talking to PTI over the phone. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final played in Barbados on Saturday.
When Suryakumar Yadav was asked if that catch was one of the most important moments of the match, he said, “I am grateful to have done something special for the country in that moment. This was God’s plan.” Suryakumar’s catch reminded many of Kapil Dev’s catch to Madan Lal in the 1983 ODI World Cup, on which the great Vivian Richard was run out.
South Africa needed 16 in the final over and the dangerous David Miller hit a big shot towards long off on a full toss from Hardik Pandya, but Suryakumar caught the ball near the boundary and left it outside the boundary rope to return and take a brilliant catch.
Talking about the catch, Dileep told PTI in a video, “When this happens, judgment and awareness are very important. “Having the confidence to know he can come back and catch the ball after throwing it is the decision he made at the time that he came out on top.” The Indian team is still stuck in Bridgetown due to the storm. Due to this storm, the air service has been completely stopped.
