The government has made it mandatory for stainless steel and aluminum kitchen utensils to conform to national quality standards.

ISI mark mandatory for kitchen utensils

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a quality control order on March 14, making the ISI mark mandatory for these kitchen utensils. BIS has designated the Indian Standards Institution mark. This ensures product quality and safety.

BIS If there is no mark then the ban will remain

According to the BIS, the order prohibits the manufacture, import, sale, distribution, storage or display of any stainless steel or aluminum utensils. BIS There should be no marks.

Penalty for non-observance of order

Penalties will be imposed for non-compliance with the order, which underlines the government’s commitment to consumer protection and product integrity, the statement said. The move is in line with the recently formulated comprehensive standards for kitchen utensils by BIS, including IS 14756:2022 for stainless steel and IS 1660:2024 for aluminum utensils.
