ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is going to start from October 5 in India. India is hosting the entire tournament for the first time. India co-hosted the World Cup in 2011 and won the title. India is once again being considered as a big contender for the trophy. Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell also considers Team India as a contender for the World Cup. But Chappell mentioned India’s claim to the annoyance of Indian fans. He said that if the Indian team goes off the road in the World Cup, its fans should not be sad. Let us tell that Chappell has been the coach of India from 2005 to 2007.

In fact, Chappell was asked during a conversation on RevSport that when the World Cup was held in 2011, three Asian teams, apart from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, reached the semi-finals. Was it because of home advantage? How do you see things turning out this time? In response to this, Chappell said, “Home advantage makes a huge difference and I am sure that the Indian team will start their campaign as home favourites.” One thing I noticed when I was the coach of India is that Indians are very comfortable to face any challenge at home.

Chappell further stated, “It was obvious that the Indians were sitting inside the change room watching me outside and that has not changed. Rohit Sharma (Captain) and Rahul Dravid The current Indian team is very good under (head coach). I think he has a good chance in home conditions. However, winning such a tournament is never easy. If you are an Indian fan, I would urge caution. Be cautiously optimistic. However, India will have a very good chance but you should not be sad if things don’t go your way because it can happen in sports. Australia and England are also very good teams. Because of IPL, the players have started to understand the situation here.
