New Delhi. Indian cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Saturday. Karthik played cricket for the country for 2 decades. His wife Deepika Pallikal played an important role in taking him to this place. Karthik has written heart touching things about Deepika in his emotional note. Deepika herself is a squash player. Karthik wrote that I am grateful to Deepika who did not give importance to her career as much as to advance my career.
DK’s retirement was certain after Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) exit from the IPL 2024 eliminator. But Dinesh Karthik made the decision official on his 39th birthday. Karthik wrote on ‘X’, ‘After much thought, I have decided to retire from competitive cricket. I officially announce my retirement and am ready for the new challenges ahead. I would like to thank all my coaches, captains, selectors and support staff members who made my long journey pleasant and enjoyable.
DK has played under the captaincy of Dravid, Kumble, Dhoni, Virat and Rohit.
Dinesh Karthik last played for India in the 2022 T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
