This weather warning has become a joke among Indians.

According to IMD data, 14 of the country’s 36 sub-divisions have recorded more than 15 heatwave days (when the maximum temperature is at least 40 degrees Celsius and 4.5 degrees above normal) from March 1 to June 9. Many places across the country, including Assam, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh, recorded their highest ever heatwave temperatures in May. The mercury crossed 50 degree Celsius in Rajasthan and came close to this mark in Delhi and Haryana.
