Heavy rain forecast in Himachal, schools closed for two days in Shimla and Mandi

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in the state till August 28. (symbolic)

Shimla:

Some areas of Himachal Pradesh received rain on Tuesday. The local weather office has issued a ‘red alert’ predicting “excessive rainfall” in eight of the state’s 12 districts during the night. Shimla Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi and Mandi Deputy Commissioner Arindam Chaudhary have ordered closure of all schools and colleges in their respective areas on Wednesday and Thursday in view of the warning. Bilaspur Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq also said that all educational institutions will remain closed on Wednesday. The weather office has issued a warning for parts of Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Una districts. Landslides occurred at some places in Mandi and trees were uprooted in some areas due to rain on Tuesday.
