Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Bhojpuri film actor Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua has said that he will make a film on the 1942 Ballia Mutiny to highlight Ballia’s role in the freedom movement. Azamgarh BJP MP ‘Nirhua’ told reporters at the district headquarters on Saturday night, ‘I have been hearing about the Ballia rebellion since childhood. Ballia has played a historic role in the freedom movement. Five years before the country got its independence, countless heroes sacrificed their lives and freed Balia. He said that he was impressed by Ballia’s role in the freedom movement and would make a film based on ‘Baliya’s Revolution’.

In 1942, a few days after the start of the Quit India Movement, many locals revolted against the British government and attacked the district jail to free fellow revolutionaries. Ballia was declared ‘Azad’ on August 19, 1942, five years before official independence under the leadership of freedom fighter Chittu Pandey. The revolution did not last long and was soon suppressed by the British. He sent a contingent to regain control of Ballia.
