Abhishek Nair, who has closely followed Rinku Singh’s journey from a ‘shy’ youngster to a ‘less confident’ to become a promising player for India, described the batting legend as an epitome of hard work and perseverance. The 25-year-old Rinku joined the race for a national spot when he hit five consecutive sixes in the final over to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a surprise win over Gujarat Titans in the IPL this year.
On Sunday, he made his India debut with a 21-ball 38 against Ireland and showed he can replicate that success at the highest level. Knight Riders assistant coach Nair said on Tuesday, “I have seen Rinku’s progress as a person. I first saw him in the KKR team and spent time with him when he came to Mumbai. He was very shy and lacked confidence.
“Overall Rinku Singh has a tremendous story – a story of rising from the floor – but with a lot of hard work and perseverance,” said Nair. Nair said, “But one thing that is special about Rinku is that she has always had the ability to work hard, listen and learn. She has always been hungry to learn.
