Your first posting in any university is as an assistant professor, after about 8 years you become an associate professor and then after about 3 years you become a professor. But a PhD alone is not enough to enter this field. Various commissions have been constituted by the government for appointments in government universities of various states, which make these appointments. The appointment process prescribed by most of the commissions in the country consists of two stages – educational verification and interview. In academic verification, different marks are determined on your graduation, PG, UGC NET, PhD, article publications, teaching experience and national or international awards.
Subject knowledge and teachability are tested in the interview. Marks are decided based on your marks in graduation and PG. For example, in graduation, if more than 80 percent marks are awarded, 15 marks are awarded, if more than 60 percent marks are awarded, 13 marks are awarded and if less than 60 percent marks are awarded, in postgraduate, if More than 80 marks are awarded. Percent marks are awarded, 25 marks, 60 percent marks 23 marks are awarded for more than 60 percent marks and 20 marks are awarded for less than 60 percent marks. If you have done UGC NET JRF, you will get 7 marks and if you have done UGC NET only, you will get 5 marks.
Teaching experience will be awarded 2 marks per year and will be for a maximum of 5 years. The same rule will apply to published articles also. After that the interview takes place. Refer to the notification of appointment by the Commission or the University.
