Former India veteran opening batsman Gautam Gambhir is the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024. He was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the last two seasons. KKR topped the league stage in the current season. He won 9 out of 14 matches. KKR lost two matches due to rain. Shreyas Iyer-led KKR are opening without any fear. Gambhir’s passion is worth watching while the match is going on. He has been aggressive on the field even in his playing days. He has also quarreled several times with the players of the opposing team. However, Gambhir’s aim is only to win. He has spoken to veteran spinner R Ashwin about his point of view. Gambhir says that people just want to see the team win and other things don’t matter. Under Gambhir’s leadership, KKR won the IPL trophy in 2012 and 2024.
Gambhir said on Ashwin’s YouTube talk show ‘Kutty Stories’, “Many times people say he doesn’t smile and laugh. Always looks intense. People don’t come to see my smile. They want to see me win and that’s why they come. .We’re in the same business. I’m not here to entertain. I’m in the dressing room, fortunately A happy dressing room is a winning dressing room. I have every right to fight for my teammates. It’s my right to try to beat the opposing team if I stick to cricket I will probably do this until the last day of my life, there is nothing wrong with this.
It is to be noted that Gambhir and star player Virat Kohli have had several fights on the field. There was a fierce fight between the two in IPL 2023 as well. However, Gambhir and Kohli were seen interchangeably in IPL 2024. While the two hugged during the first match of RCB vs KKR, they were seen discussing at Eden Gardens ahead of the second clash. Pictures and videos of Gambhir and Kohli went viral. Gambhir said in an interview a few days back, “Sometimes you have to lift yourself up to lift the whole team.” To aggressively feed the whole team, one has to be aggressive. Because the whole team looks up to a leader. When a pressure situation arises, the ten players standing inside see only one person and that is their captain and leader.
