“I withdrew my name…”, Neeraj Chopra broke his silence ahead of the Paris Olympics

Neeraj Chopra Paris Olympics 2024: Olympic and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra (Neeraj Chopra) clarified on Wednesday that the Paris Diamond League on Sunday is never part of their competition calendar this year. The statement came after media reports said that Chopra had withdrawn from the competition due to a minor thigh injury that had been bothering him for the past few months. The 26-year-old told “X” that since he had not sent his name for the competition, there was no question of withdrawing his name.

“Hi everyone, just to clarify: The Paris Diamond League was not part of my competition calendar this season so I did not ‘withdraw’ from it as I prepared for the Olympic Games,” Tokyo Olympic champion Chopra wrote. Thanks for understanding. Items and support, and good luck to all the players competing.”

Last week, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) exempted him from participating in the National Inter-State Championships, a mandatory competition for all Indian athletes. The AFI said they were given the concession due to the short time between the domestic competition and the Diamond League on July 7.

AFI President Adil Sumariwala said, “We have made it clear that every athlete will compete in the inter-state championships in India. But the Paris Diamond League is clashing with the inter-state championships and we feel that the Paris Diamond League will compete in the Olympics. This league will be very important for him (Chopra) before the Games so he is the only person who has been given special permission to participate in the Federation Cup.

However, Chopra had hinted last month that her schedule would be decided according to her body condition. “It was discussed between us that I will play in the Inter State Championship (June 27 to 30) and he will play in Panchkula, Haryana but there is very little time between that and the Paris Olympics,” Chopra said.

“I was playing in Doha so it is close to India, besides the National Inter-State Championship and the Paris Diamond League (July 7) between the Olympics. So we decided to participate here (Federation Cup),” said Chopra. “The next competition calendar will be decided according to the circumstances and body condition, otherwise I will go to Paris from here (after the competition in Turkey),” he said.
