The entire country is currently immersed in celebrating the T20 World Cup victory. India won the title after 17 years by defeating South Africa in the title match played on June 29. Many players have played an important role in helping India win this trophy, but two of them were the ones for whom this was the last T20 World Cup. These two players were none other than captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both the players gave their all in this tournament. In such a situation, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has requested to retire his jersey.
BCCI has so far retired only two jerseys – Sachin’s number-10 and Dhoni’s number-7. Retirement of the jersey means that no young player of Team India can enter the field wearing the jersey of that number.
Suresh Raina told Jio Cinemas, “I request BCCI to retire jersey number 18 and 45. They should keep these jersey numbers in their office for some special occasion. Number 7 has already been retired. Yes, they have 18. The same should be done for 45. Everyone who sees this number should be inspired.
Let us tell you that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirement from T20 Internationals after winning the title. Both these great players will now be seen playing only ODI and Test cricket.
