If Gautam Gambhir becomes the head coach of Team India… Sourav Ganguly speaks his mind openly, what will BCCI do now?

Read on the application

Former opener Gautam Gambhir’s name is frontrunner in the race to become the head of Team India. The deadline (May 27) to apply for the post of head coach is over. Whether or not the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gambhir will become a serious head coach remains in the womb of the future. At the same time, former Indian team captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he would be happy if Gambhir became the coach. Ganguly is in favor of the Indian coach. Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends after T20 World Cup 2024. He is holding the responsibility as the head of the Indian team from November 2021.

According to PTI, Ganguly said, “I am in favor of having an Indian coach because there is immense talent in our country. We have very talented players who have contributed immensely to Indian cricket and they should be a part of the system.” Ganguly was asked whether Gambhir, who is in the running for the post of coach, will be the right person, he said May was the last date to apply.

He said, “Obviously, the BCCI has the right to extend it (the deadline). If he (Gambir) applies and if he wants to, he will be a very good candidate,” Ganguly said. “If Gambhir has applied you would have seen how he has done for KKR this year. You can see his hunger and passion to win. I will be happy if he has applied and the board decides to give him the post. I believe he is a good candidate for the position.” Gambhir has left an impression as a mentor. He became KKR’s mentor ahead of IPL 2024 and the team managed to end a title drought after 10 years.

Jai Shah and Gambhir had a long conversation after KKR became champions for the third time. Under Gambhir’s captaincy, KKR won the trophy in 2012 and 2014. A few days ago a report claimed that a deal had been struck between Gambhir and the BCCI and could be formally announced soon. The IPL franchise owner, who is very close to the BCCI top brass, said Gambhir’s deal has been finalised. The tenure of the new head coach will be three-and-a-half years, starting from July 1, 2024.

Indian T20 team led by Rohit Sharma World Cup Will start his campaign on 5th. India’s first match is against Ireland. Ganguly says that India is a strong contender for the title in the T20 World Cup to be jointly organized by America and West Indies. He said, “India has a very good chance of winning the World Cup. India will have to play like a T20 team. There is a lot of talent in this team.”
