Captain Rohit on Bumrah: After beating arch-rivals Pakistan (India vs Pakistan) by 6 runs in the ongoing T20 World Cup (T20 World Cup 2024) on Sunday, there is a lot of excitement not only among crores of Indian fans but also among former Indian cricketers. Veteran spinner Anil Kumble believes that Jasprit Bumrah (Jasprit Bumrah) adapt to circumstances with their adaptability and unique skills. And if India is to win the T20 World Cup, this leading fast bowler will have to play a vital role. Overall former captain Kumble has challenged Bumrah for the tournament. It remains to be seen how well Bumrah will live up to Kumble’s promise, but given the type of pitch and the way he is bowling, he can easily break the challenge. Bumrah (3 for 14) produced a match-winning performance to lead India to a thrilling six-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan in a much-awaited match here on Sunday.
In response to India’s 119 runs on the uneven pitch of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, the Pakistan team could only score 113 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. The fast bowling duo of Bumrah and Hardik Pandya (two wickets for 24 runs) led India to a comeback with their superb bowling.
Speaking to a website, Kumble said, ‘We saw him take (Mohammed Rizwan’s) wicket in the 15th over and then in the 19th over. When you knew that if he had hit some boundaries in that over, 10 or 12 runs would have been saved in the last over. He said, “But once it reaches 18 or 19 runs, it becomes impossible for the tail batsman to score runs on such a surface. So Jasprit Bumrah will have to play an important role if India win this tournament.
Pandya made good use of the short ball, while Bumrah dismissed Rizwan in the 15th over and then Iftikhar Ahmed in the 19th over. In which only three runs were scored in the 19th over. The equation came down to 18 off the last six balls and Arshdeep Singh held his composure to ensure another stunning win for India against Pakistan on the world stage.
Praising Bumrah, Kumble said that he is the team’s number one player in terms of selection, irrespective of the format and the nature of the pitch. The former leg-spinner said, ‘Jasprit Bumrah should be the number one player on your team list. Forget the format, Jasprit Bumrah is your number one player.
