Important news for Govt employees, three new rules issued for LTC

Essential Travel Concession i.e. LTC rules for central employees have been modified. Notification has been issued by Department of Personnel and Training for these employees. Accordingly, in respect of LTC, new rules relating to meal during rail journey and ticket booking charges at Government expense will apply.

The salaries of Government employees are paid by the Central Government under the Seventh Pay Commission, while the LTC for these employees is determined as per the Central Civil Services (Essential Travel Concession) Rules, 1988. In terms of LTC, the new rules cover issues like food charges during travel, air ticket booking.

Meal charges during train journey: A notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said that now employees will be allowed to reimburse food charges in Railways for the purpose of Essential Travel Concession (LTC). Wherever employees travel by railways under LTC and opt for railway catering, they will be reimbursed for the same.

Air Ticket Booking: If an air ticket is booked under LTC and it has to be canceled for any reason, the cancellation charges levied by the airlines, agent or platform will also be paid to the employee.

Registration of travel agents has expired: The DoPT has decided that government servants who are not entitled to travel by air no longer need to compulsorily book their tickets through the three travel agencies IRCTC, BLCL and ATT. Bus or train fare will be applicable for them for shorter routes. Here the cancellation charges will be borne by the employee.
