Team India defeated Afghanistan in Super-8 round of T20 World Cup 2024. India beat Afghanistan by 47 runs at the Kensington Oval Stadium in Barbados. This is India’s fourth consecutive win in the tournament. India scored 181/8 and in reply Afghanistan were bowled out for 134 in 20 overs. Five players played an important role in India’s emphatic victory.
Suryakumar Yadav
Middle order batsman Suryakumar Yadav scored a storming half-century. He played an innings of 53 runs in 28 balls. He hit five fours and three sixes in his innings. Surya took charge well when India lost four wickets for 90 runs. He put India in a strong position with a 60-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Hardik Pandya. He was awarded the player of the match for his brilliant batting.
Hardik Pandya
Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya batted continuously. If Hardik had not backed Surya, the Indian innings might have ended badly. 32 runs came from his bat in 24 balls. He hit three fours and two sixes. Hardik also bowled. Although he did not get wickets, he was financially viable. He gave away 13 runs in two overs.
Jasprit Bumrah
Powerful fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah once again cast a killer spell. He conceded just 7 runs in four overs and guided three players to the pavilion. Bumrah gave Afghanistan the first blow by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz (11) in the second over. He dismissed opener Hazratullah Zazai (2) in the fifth over. Bumrah trapped Najibullah Zadran (19) in the 16th over.
Arshdeep Singh
Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh also took three wickets. He sent back the players who came to bat in the lower order cheaply. Arshdeep dismissed captain Rashid Khan (2), Noor Ahmed (12) and Naveen ul Haq (0). Arshdeep led the Indian bowling attack. However, his first over did not go well, losing 13 runs. But Arshdeep did not panic and managed to return.
Kuldeep Yadav
Spinner Kuldeep Yadav for the first time in the current T20 World Cup Came to play and performed effectively. After conceding 32 runs in a spell of four overs, he took two important wickets in the form of Gulbadin Naib (17) and Mohammad Nabi (14). Gulbadin shared a 44-run partnership with Azmatullah Umarzai (26) for the fourth wicket and Nabi shared a 31-run partnership with Najibullah for the sixth wicket.
