India on Wednesday sealed their place in the Super-8 by defeating America by seven wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In New York, India chased down a target of 111 runs in 18.2 overs with the loss of three wickets. For India, Suryakumar Yadav scored 50 not out and Shivam Dubey contributed 31 not out. Left arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was declared player of the match. He took four wickets for nine runs in four overs and was instrumental in restricting America to 110/8.
This performance of Arshdeep in T20 World Cup This is the best bowling performance by an Indian. The record was previously held by spinner R Ashwin, who took four wickets for 11 runs against Australia in Mirpur in 2014. After Arshdeep and Ashwin, the best bowling figure in the T20 World Cup belongs to former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh. Bhajji spent 12 runs against England in 2012 and took four wickets. Former fast bowler ARP Singh (4/13) is fourth in the list.

In the India vs America match, Arshdeep got good support from all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Hardik took two wickets by conceding 14 runs in four overs. Akshar Patel got success. For America, Nitish Kumar contributed 27 runs off 23 balls while opener Steven Taylor contributed 24 runs off 30 balls. Batting on the New York pitch has proved very difficult. Arshdeep got India off to a great start by lbwing Shayan Jahangir (0) off the first ball of the opening over and dismissing Andreas Gauss (two runs) off the last ball.
Aaron Jones (11), who replaced injured captain Monak Patel, showed aggression by hitting a six off Mohammad Siraj’s bouncer, but Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik bowled economical overs which saw the US score 18 for two. A wicket in the power play. Jones was caught by Siraj off Hardik while trying to play another big shot. Taylor, who has been playing cautiously so far, hit a six against Shivam Dubey in the ninth over. He was bowled in the 12th over after hitting his second six of the innings against Akshar.
Nitish then hit Hardik for a brilliant six and a four straight away, while Corey Anderson (15), who had played for New Zealand, delivered the axer to the crowd. After conceding 32 runs in the last three overs, Indian captain Rohit Sharma handed over the ball to Arshdeep and the bowler sent the aggressive batting Nitish to the pavilion. Siraj took a brilliant catch near the boundary. Anderson hit fours against Bumrah while Harmeet Singh (10) increased the run rate with sixes.
Hardik dealt a double blow to America by dismissing Anderson in the 17th over and Harmeet in the 18th over to dismiss Arshdeep. Both of them were caught behind the wicket by Rishabh Pant. America’s century ended with a run from Shedley Van Schalkwyk (11 not out) in this over. He contributed fours against Siraj in the last over to take the score to 110 runs.
