Washington. US President Joe Biden has called Japan and India xenophobic countries that do not welcome immigrants. Putting the two on par with rivals China and Russia, he tried to explain their economic circumstances and compared all four to the US on immigration. Biden made the comments at a fundraiser Wednesday evening. Japan is an important ally of America. India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Despite differences on human rights, the three countries are important partners in the Indo-Pacific bloc.
The majority of donors to this fundraising campaign were Asian American. Biden said the nation’s economy is thriving ‘because of you and many others.’ Because we welcome immigrants. Biden said, ‘Look, think about it. Why is China doing so badly economically? Why is Japan facing problems? Why is Russia like this? Why India? Because they are xenophobic. They don’t want immigrants.
President Joe Biden said that ‘immigrants make us stronger.’ This is no joke. This is not an exaggeration, as we have an influx of workers who want to stay here and contribute. White House national security spokesman John Kirby had no immediate response from the Japanese or Indian governments.
Japan has acknowledged the issues of its declining population and the number of children born in the country fell for the eighth consecutive year in 2023, according to data released in February. Meanwhile, India’s population has become the world’s largest, with the United Nations saying it is on track to reach 1.42 billion. Its population is also young. Earlier this year, India enacted a new citizenship law. which provides citizenship for Hindus, Parsis, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians who fled to India from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. But that does not include Muslims, who are the majority in all three countries.
